Going Back In Time Or Do Women Entrepreneurs Need To Be More Professional?

Monday, April 13, 2009

This past Thursday, Brian and I were invited to present to a very impressive and active Angel Group. The meeting was held at the Milwaukee Athletic Club, where oak trim, plush carpeting, and lots of men in black pinstripes suits greeted us.

We were one of three presenting companies. I presented and was thrilled with my presentation; we fielded every question superbly as well. After the presentation, I was told, point blank, that the men were pleased because, as a woman, I need to be more professional than my men counterparts and I had achieved that. I passed the test.

To be honest, I have no problem working as hard as I can so I’m more professional that my counterparts; it’s in my blood to want to be the best! But I’m curious…what do you think? Is going to Milwaukee going back in time, or do we women still have major hurdles to overcome?

I absolutely agree with the man who said that women NEED to be more professional than men in order to be perceived as equal. However, the fact that he acutally *said* it is what makes me think he lives in the stone ages. It is an inappropriate comment but in the end....he meant well.

I just stumbled across your blog and learned about your yogurt. I love trying new yogurts.

Unfortunately, I live in San Jose, CA where it's not available (yet). Fortunately though...I will be traveling to Chicago next week so I will swing by a Whole Foods to try one out. The product looks great and I like how it doesn't have a lot of extras, mystery ingredients in it.

I agree with leyla - un-pc comment but he tried to compliment you! If you did better it was because you worked harder and tried harder for it. I think you were also underestimated! I look forward to a day when everything will be truely equal
